Believing for a Baby
All good things come from the Lord
Has not the One God made you? You belong to Him in body and spirit. And what does the One God seek? Godly offspring. - Malachi 2:15.
Having children is a blessing from the Lord. It’s all over Scripture. But when a couple struggles to have a child it can mean two things: a curse that typically comes from a generational curse; or it’s not the timing of the Lord. Ask the Lord what your situation is and respond accordingly.
In this article we will deal with the curse and how to pray regarding it.
First we will look at only a few scriptures about how the Lord blesses people with children. Until you are sure that this is God’s choice to bless you with, you will not think correctly about it.
Deuteronomy 7:14 - “You shall be blessed above all peoples; there will be no male or female barren among you or among your cattle.”
Exodus 23:26 - “There shall be no one miscarrying or barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.”
Genesis 30:22-23 - “Then God remembered Rachel, and God gave heed to her and opened her womb. So she conceived and bore a son and said, "God has taken away my reproach.”
There are many other Scriptures like these.
And there are many Scriptures about barrenness that show it is always a curse. Let’s take a look at where the curse comes from.
Genesis 20:17-18 - 17Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelek, his wife and his female slaves so they could have children again, 18for the Lord had kept all the women in Abimelek’s household from conceiving because of Abraham’s wife Sarah.”
All of Genesis 20 describes what happened. Remember this is before Moses. The Lord hadn’t given Moses His Word on the “do’s” and “don’t’s” , particularly Leviticus 18 about sexual relations (see chapters 16-20) — what is sinful and what is not. By giving his wife to Abimelek, (which you think he would have learned after what happened with Pharaoh in Genesis 12:10-20), it created a curse upon Abimelek and all in his household. Now before anyone gets hung up on the “do’s” and “don’t’s” - it’s not about the Law. Jesus took care of all of that. Our “doing” is to stay tight with the Lord and do whatever He tells us to do, and stay in love. Love with Him and love for others. That’s the “doing”.
One more note about Genesis 20 - notice it wasn’t just the women who were barren. Abimelek also had the curse. It can do down the male side or the female side of families.
Back to what creates a curse of barrenness.
-
As Genesis 20:17-18 states, taking another man’s wife/another woman’s husband causes barrenness.
-
In Leviticus 20:20-21 says if there is incest in the family it causes barrenness and if someone marries their bother-in-law or sister-in-law there will be barrenness.
-
In Deuteronomy 28:15, 18, 45, 47 - says that if you do not obey the Lord when He tells you to do something - like in your prayer time and study time (not about the “do’s” and “don’t’s”of the Law) and if you do not serve Him with joyfulness and gladness of heart, that a curse can come upon the womb: "15“But if you will not obey the voice of the LORD your God or be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you…18Cursed shall be the fruit of your womb..45“All these curses shall come upon you and pursue you and overtake you till you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the LORD your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes that he commanded you…47Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joyfulness and gladness of heart, because of the abundance of all things,”
-
Sins of the forefather/foremothers get passed down from generation to generation - Numbers 14:18-20 - “18‘The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet He does not leave the guilty unpunished; He punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.’ 19In accordance with your great love, forgive the sin of these people, just as you have pardoned them from the time they left Egypt until now.” 20The Lord replied, “I have forgiven them, as you asked.
What to do about these things in prayer:
-
Verbally repent of the sins of your forefathers/foremothers, and of your own sin.
-
Receive forgiveness for your entire family, including yourself.
-
Renounce and Break the curse in the all powerful Name of Jesus.
-
Break all cords to the curse and family members, including you and your spouse.
-
Release forgiveness of anyone who comes to mind.
-
Renew your mind by replacing thoughts, attitudes, and action (what you think, say, and do) with what God’s Word says regarding these things. When an old thought or attitude comes up - cast it down in the Name of Jesus and replace it by verbally quoting the scripture regarding it. You don’t need to memorize scripture. As you keep the Scripture(s) in front of your eyes, over time they will come pouring out of your heart and mouth.
-
Resist old patterns of behavior. Don’t allow yourself to go there, in Jesus Name. Again, speak the Scripture out loud to yourself regarding the situation.
-
STAY IN PRAISE and THANKSGIVING TO GOD until the manifestation comes to pass! Until your little one is in your arms! You don’t need to repeat repentance for your forefathers etc. It’s done! Go to praise instead!
